How accurate is this?
The GPT count uses the o200k_base tokenizer, the encoding of GPT-4o, GPT-4.1 and the o-series, so it is exact for those models. Newer GPT models may differ slightly if OpenAI changes the tokenizer. Claude and Gemini do not publish tokenizers that can run in a browser, so their numbers are estimates. Newer Claude models produce about 30% more tokens than GPT for the same English text. Code, numbers and non-Latin scripts such as Urdu, Arabic, Hindi or Chinese use more tokens per character.
